Traditional Lenten Practice
Operation Rice Bowl (sometimes called ORB, the Latin word for "world") is Catholic Relief Services' Lenten solidarity program. The Church of the Resurrection has been actively participating in this program for the last several years. Through it, we join millions of Catholics in all 50 states in the United States, in more than 15,000 parishes, schools, and other faith communities. Participating in Operation Rice Bowl helps us grow in spirit and solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world through traditional Lenten practices, by offering our prayers, by fasting, by learning, and by giving. The money raised through Operation Rice Bowl is designated for long-term development assistance to the world's poor as well as to those in need in this country. Each year, 25% of the funds raised are used to support hunger assistance programs (such as Our Daily Bread) within the diocese.
